    FireFox 3 Released

Mozilla claims that Firefox 3 is "The Browser That Has It All", may that is true. If so, is this the final version of Firefox - definitely not. Firefox lot of feature that are still pending to release multiple versions. Here are the list of features that Firefox 3 has http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/features, nicely listed out. Now I‘m waiting for IE8 and how it is going to compete with Firefox. The most important feature I like, memory usage.

Yahoo just advises the user weather to trust that site or not. This is great feature!! Whether Live Search & google search will follow this feature ?

    IIS SQL injections

Panda and F-Secure both identified a malicious piece of code being hidden in Web pages that does the redirect. Site admins should look for this hidden in their Web pages:

    <script src=http://www.nihaorr1.com/1.js>

The vulnerability in IIS, developed by Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT), allows
hackers to inject SQL code to manipulate legitimate Web pages. This code adds an
IFRAME to redirect the user to a malicious Website that scans their computer for
vulnerabilities and then downloads and installs malware that can get passed the
    user's defenses.

    Apple iPhone SDK

I was thinking that Apple is inviting the open source developers group to add more apps to their phone which will eventually increase their market share. I thought that would be a good news for hobbist developers like me, but after reading the article @ http://www.linux.com/feature/131752 it looks like not everyone can do this. One way this might reduce the number of developers in developing the apps for iPhone , but as Apple has the control over it, the quality of the product can be monitored.

Google Summer of Code Project Idea

Google Summer of Code for 2008 is the latest buzz among the students! For students this is great opportunity to show their talent to the world. Here is the list of software that Google is monitoring for the sponsorship http://code.google.com/soc/2008.

Now the biggest task is to get a good idea/project for those software, to participate in this program. How to get a idea ? Here are the few tips I have that might help you to achieve.

First go through all the projects that Google is monitoring and find which one is more interested to you and already you gave good domain knowledge about it. Try using that software for at least a week extensively then you can easily find what is missing in that project and what you can bring in to that.

Apple pushing safari in a different way

I normally install QuickTime for two reason in my desktop computer. one my digital camera stores the motion picture as .MOV file and to see the movie trailers @ http://www.apple.com/trailers. Few dates back I got a update from popup for auto-update from apple and I generally install all the updates that popups without reading careful. Here also I did the same, few days later I saw safari web browser icon on the desktop. I was wondering how this happen and then I remember that QuickTime update prompt, but don't know to how confirm. But reading the article at http://www.news.com/8301-10784_3-9901006-7.html?tag=nefd.pop , it is confirm its the same QuickTime update culprit that I pushed me that safari browser. I don't have anything to say about it, everything Mozilla CEO has said it.

FireFox 3 would be a good upgrade

Firefox 3 seems like giving more reduced memory usage when compared previous version (Firefox 2). From their test results it shows that Firefox 3 uses ~100 MB in long run where IE 7 uses ~500 MB and Firefox 2 uses ~200 MB. Here is the nice blog entry which describes their effort and changes went in FireFox 3 http://blog.pavlov.net/2008/03/11/firefox-3-memory-usage/.

Now I'm wonder how the IE 8 going to be, according to me Firefox browser leads all other browser in this world. Similar test with IE8 would also add more value to the customers.

    Linux Still not customer choice

Walmart has tried celling Laptop with Linux pre-install and Walmark couldn't find any good business on that.  Linux has to go further long distance in the Desktop arena to match Windows & Macintosh. X-Windows is great product, but Gnome & KDE has to work a lot in performance, usability and look & feel.

Blu-Ray the final winner : Good or BAD

    Good:
Now the ultimate customers and industries has only one choice for go behind though there are choices in brands. Now everyone can go ahead and buy the Blu-Ray drivers/players.

    Bad:
Thoshiba would have losted lot of money in this and also those who have bought any HD-DVD players has only very very limited number of movies to play ( that too, it might old my this time you read this).

    Warning:
Regarding, the industry has to control the Blu-Ray regarding the royalty pricing on the disk. I do totally agree that royalty is the only return of the investment made on the research. But that should not affect the end user cost much.

IE7 in VISTA doesn't prompt for open or save

I have faced with .zip files IE7 doesn't prompt for open or save dialog. It was always opening in 7-zip tool directly.  I have tried enabling "automatic promptly for download" in the Tools->options->Security->Custom Level, but it didn't help.
After doing lot of trial and error, deleting file association for .zip worked fine by registry editor. I simply deleted the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.zip entry from registry after taking the backup and then I restarted the internet and tried downloading a .zip file, it was prompting me that open or save dialog.
Again I restored the registry  back that I took backup before deleting the key, after then also IE was prompting me the open or save dialog, o!great. But I didn't know what went wrong.
I couldn't find a properly solution for this error in the internet.
